Mr. Smith is an Associate who joined Welter in 2016. His practice focuses on employment law and litigation.

Mr. Smith received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C., where he was a member of the Catholic University Law Review. Prior to and during law school, he was an Advisor in the United States Senate for Sen. John McCain for six years.

Following law school, Mr. Smith served as a clerk for The Honorable Claude M. Hilton of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the “rocket docket.” In that role he composed bench memoranda, orally briefed motions each week, and drafted memorandum opinions and orders for civil cases involving business and employment law matters.

Mr. Smith is licensed to practice in Virginia and the District of Columbia and is admitted before both the Virginia Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He is a member of the Federal Bar Association, Virginia Bar Association, Fairfax Bar Association and serves on the Board of Stewards of the Jonathan House, a non-profit organization.
